The Statistics, Probability, and Operations Research Cluster (SPOR) has a focus on fundamental research in discrete optimization, stochastic operations research, probability theory and statistics, and it is part of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Eindhoven University of Technology. At a high level, the focus is on the modelling and study of complex systems featuring a high amount of uncertainty, and the development of effective techniques for inference, analysis, and optimization of such systems. Therefore, we investigate complex systems from a double perspective: we aim at advancing their theoretical foundations, while at the same time maintaining strong ties and connections with industry and other scientific domains. Likewise, our education portfolio is strongly rooted in rigorous mathematical concepts and stylized models, but with an eye towards real-life problems and applications.
